What is a vibrator?
A vibrator is a body massager powered by an electric outlet or
batteries. When a body massager is used specifically to induce
a sexual response, it is referred to as a "vibrator." It has also
been called a "Woman's Best Friend" because it reliably produces
pleasurable sensations that can lead to orgasm and feelings of
inner joy and sexual satisfaction.
I used a vibrator once but it felt uncomfortable
- Is there something wrong with me?
No. Several reasons are possible. You could be placing the vibrator
directly on the clitoris (to the left or the right of the clitoris
is better). Or you may not have found the right place or pressure.
You may possibly have experienced what is known as "pleasure anxiety."
When you are unaccustomed to the stronger pleasurable feelings
the vibrator generates, your body may resist these feelings and
create tension. This tension can be over come by breathing deeply.
Concentrate on your breathing and direct your mind to relax your
body.
Some ways to do this include repeating the following self-affirmations
to yourself:
- "I have a right to pleasure."
- "I give myself permission to enjoy my own body."
- "I deserve to love and nurture myself."
Use whatever words work for you. With practice and the desire
to "let go" your anxiety and discomfort will probably disappear
and pleasure will follow!
Can I become addicted to my vibrator?
Although many women rely on their vibrator for orgasm, it is
only one of many other pleasurable ways of achieving sexual
fulfillment.
When you are responsible for your own sexual response, it becomes
much easier to ask your partner what you want. This includes
introducing a vibrator into lovemaking, or, initiating the kind
of lovemaking that achieves ultimate satisfaction for you without
a vibrator.
A vibrator is a vibrator is a vibrator.
True, it never snores, lets you down or leaves town. But it
never says "I love you." That will be up to you to say to yourself.
How does a vibrator induce sexual
response?
A vibrator is an electric massager for sensual and sexual pleasure.
Wherever you place it, blood flow and energy to that location
increases. The vibrator's pressure and movement around the clitoral
area triggers the nerves that create sexual arousal, causing
an increase in blood circulation. This increase in circulation,
called vasocongestion, stimulates erections in men and vaginal
lubrication in women. The vibrator does the "work," while you
relax and enjoy it.
Why do I need a vibrator?
You don't need it. You choose it. And if you do, it is a wonderful
way to learn about your own sexual response, your own body,
your own orgasms. Using a vibrator is a personal journey into
self pleasuring...a celebration of your own sexuality. Loving
yourself is a first step toward shared love. A vibrator is also
a hygienic means of practicing safe sex.
How do I learn to use one?
By yourself. Privacy is essential to learning about your own
body. Concentrate totally on your breathing. Conscious breathing
clears the mind to totally focus on the body. Press the head
of the Magic Wand on either side of the clitoris, using gentle
force or pressure. Let your body sensations be your guide. If
you wish to reduce the intensity of the vibrations, place a
towel between your body and the massage head. Remember you are
the architect of your own pleasure-response. The ongoing pressure
will usually lead to orgasm anywhere between 10-60 minutes.

I have heard that a vibrator can
bring you to orgasm during intercourse, but I am unsure of how
to introduce it to my partner. Wouldn't he be threatened?
Maybe not as much as you anticipate. Recent studies have shown
that more men are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about
women's sexuality, and more enlightened about the needs of their
partners. So it is likely your partner will accept the vibrator
as part of the love play, anticipating that it will help arouse
and pleasure you.
Introduce it in a casual but positive manner. Show him how it
works by giving him a body massage. Let him know that if the
vibrator helps you to reach orgasm, he needn't worry about "performance
anxiety," which sometimes renders some men impotent. Generally,
a vibrator doesn't threaten a man with a health sense of himself.
A good sexual relationship is based on equal partners responding
to-and pleasing one another.
